Product Information |
McCallum Bros. Ltd. in conjunction with Holcim aggregates is now able to supply TNZ F2 that meets the specification for pipe – subsoil drain construction. |
TNZ F2 is designed to work with pipes that are identified with either: |
- permanent clearly visible continuous longitudinal red line
or |
- pipes with legible lettering on both sides at approximately 1 meter intervals stating: TNZ F/2 Class 500.
The material is a specific blend of sand and aggregates that can be supplied direct to site. |
Basalt aggregate from Holcim (NZ) Ltd.’s Bombay quarry is used and offers significant advantages over other rock types. |
Due to basalt’s structural and chemical makeup, it provides high shear, compression and tensile strengths. It also displays a low variation in strength between its wet and dry states which makes it ideal when used as a filter material (or medium).
See the Basalt Facts Box.
| |
TNZ F2 material is suitable for pipe bedding under specified conditions and as a back fill material. |
| |
Mix consistency is monitored and certified by Holcim’s ISO 9000 registered laboratory. |
BASALT FACTS |
- Basalt has relatively high shear, tensile and compressive strengths compared to most locally available rock alternatives.
- Basalt's wet/dry strength variation is quite low, about 5%. This means that basalt does not break down in water as much as other commonly used rocks.
- The shrinkage or thermo-expansion of the basalt is relatively small, maintaining its volume better throughout the hottest and coldest times of year.
- Basalt has relatively high density. When crushed, the fine grain of the basalt is relatively coarse making it less likely to block water movement.
